From: RCMackay@webtv.net (RonCathy Mackay) 10.16.99 Subject: Roseland Rehearsal My wife & I went to see the 10/13 show. Not being from NYC we had no idea that we were supposed to line up down the street & not in front of the venue. We showed up at three & noticed the door was unlocked so we walked on in to check the place out. I fully expected to get tossed out any minute but the people with the band must have thought we were with the ballroom (& vice versa). Just after three Jimmy's guitar tech set up & tuned his guitars. Then at four a couple of the BCs walked on stage. (we were sitting on the sofas along the side of the ballroom reading newspapers trying to "blend") My wife looked up & said "check it out, that guy looks like Jimmy from the back". About two seconds later he turned around & I quit "blending" & dropped my newspaper. Needless to say we had our own private show for the next hour. (what I would have given for a tape recorder right then) They started working on Nobody's Fault but Mine. Jimmy spent almost forty minutes teaching the BCs all the finer points of the song. Mainly showing Rich & the other guitarist how the song was supposed to be played. It looked like they'd learned it from a TAB site & Jimmy was showing them the way he wanted it done. Next they moved on to Heartbreaker. The main problem with this was that the drummer was coming in too late after the solo. He also wanted a little more rhythm from the other two guitars. This song only took about ten minutes to work out. The last few minutes were spent on a blues number I didn't recognize. During this one, after playing it through once, Jimmy came over to the two guitarists & said "let me show you something wicked" (& showed them a trickier ending). Sounded pretty funny coming out of Jimmy. Over all an incredible rehearsal to watch. Rich seemed in awe of Jimmy & they all seemed to be very relaxed. (joking & laughing) The bass player began D&C in between practices & got a smile out of Jimmy. My wife especially liked the fact that Jimmy was relaxed enough to scratch his butt & after practice, take off his shirt to wipe down his ALREADY sweaty body! (he has lost some weight, this wasn't as scary as it would have been last year) To top it off, Jimmy's guitar tech even offered us a soda from backstage. BTW, after the practice we sat & watched a photo shoot of Jimmy's guitars, amps & effects. It was for Guitar Player Magazine, so be on the look out for it. Jimmy also had his Gibson & Danelectro doublenecks up on stage with his other guitars but never used them (bummer). Needless to say, we stood directly in front of Jimmy (first row against the barricade) at concert time, and it was an awesome night! We came home with a few good pictures from the show & one of Rich's pics. I'll post the pictures to a site soon. C-YA, Ron
